INDIA: No Headway in Attacks Investigation
PUNE (The Indian Express), February 26, 2007:
The Pune city police have made no headway into the investigations in the recent attacks on senior citizens. The cases of attacks on senior citizens remain unsolved till date.
The recent case of attack by a robber on an non resident Indian senior citizen too remains unsolved. Bhagwati Parashram Manwani, an eighty-year-old woman was attacked at her residence in the Camp area by an unidentified robber on Saturday afternoon.
Bhagwati was alone in the flat located in Tulsidas Apartments near JJ Garden, when an unidentified robber entered the house asking for water to drink. Moments later, he attacked her with a shoe injuring her on the head and face.
Manwani is currently undergoing medical treatment at Jehangir Hospital. An NRI from Spain, she had been in the city since December 22. While her husband died a year-and-half ago, her four daughters and a son are settled in Spain.
Cantonment Police Inspector Krushna Magdum however said that investigations were being carried out in the case and it will be cracked soon. “We are collecting evidences of the robber’s identity and will nab him soon,” he said.
Earlier this month, Urmila Shah, a resident of Market Yard was fired at point blank range by an unidentified assailant while she was alone at home. The bullet was lodged in her chest and she had to undergo an emergency surgery. However, no further investigations were carried out in the case by the Swargate Police.
When asked, a senior police official said that the police till date had no clue over who had attacked the lady although there was initial suspicion of a family dispute involved.
