JAPAN: World's Oldest Person is 114

TOKYO (The Nation, Madrid), January 30, 2007: A Japanese Woman is the Eldest Woman in the World, according to the New York-based Global Action on Ageing. Ms. Yoneko Minagawa is 114 years old and became the oldest person in the world when Ms. Emma Faust passed away. Even though Ms. Minagawa relies on a wheelchair to get around, her overall health is good. She is also able to communicate without a problem and likes to sleep a lot. According to statistics, 85.4% of centenarians are women, further supporting the fact that women generally live longer than men. In Japan, there are approximately 30,000 centenarians.
