INDIA: Sea Cruise Is A Treat for 170 Seniors

MUMBAI (DNA Grandeur), November 22, 2006: Senior citizens have never had it this good. The Indian Navy organised an exclusive cruise for them that kicked off at the naval harbour on Wednesday. As part of the ‘Navy Week Celebration 2006’, these senior citizens from various NGO’s were taken aboard a ferry craft. “At least 170 senior citizens arrived for the cruise. They were very happy to be here. With this event, we are trying to do our bit in bringing the public closer to life at sea,” said Aniruddha Sohoni, Commander. Revelling with friends, Pushpa Joshi from Indian Association for Retired Persons was so exhilarated by the experience that she has made up her mind to visit INS Vikrant next. Now, I want to live my life,” she said. There were some who have become regulars at this harbour cruise. Gopal Talwar, from the Association for Senior Citizens, is one of them. “I find such trips very fascinating. The vastness of the sea makes me feel so insignificant. I feel like a small speck in the ocean. But I am at peace with myself when I come here. This time my wife has come along as well, so I am all the more happy,” he said. And the pleasant weather added to the whole experience, say the Malkani’s, a couple from the Association for Senior citizens. “Life in Mumbai is so hectic that this proved to be a much-needed break. I jumped at the chance when we heard about the cruise. It was a nice change and the weather was good too,” said Seema Malkani. By Megha Chaturvedi © 2005-2007 Diligent Media Corporation Ltd.
