VIET NAM: Seniors Asked to Pitch in to Help Educators

HA NOI (Vietnam News Service), August 8, 2006: Viet Nam’s Elderly Association has called on senior citizens nationwide to offer suggestions and comments on how to improve the education system. In a letter sent to the association, the Minister of Education and Training asked the elderly to take part in a campaign to fight cheating in examinations and help create a new era of education reform. Seniors were asked to encourage children to study hard, behave well and forgo cheating. Seniors were also asked to mobilise relatives who are teachers and administrators at schools to take the lead in implementing the ministry’s regulations. The elderly are also expected to encourage others to contribute their talents, labour and money to develop more schools, honour distinguished teachers and study promotion associations and parent associations to improve the quality of education and training.
