St.ANDREW (Radio Jamaica), August 16, 2006: Two Jamaicans, including a 78-year-old businessman wanted by US prosecutors, were arrested today by members of Operation Kingfish during a major international counter-narcotics operation involving security officials from Jamaica and five other countries.
Seventy-eight year old Jeffery Daviton Lewis and his 30-year-old son Gareth were arrested on provisional warrants during Wednesday's crack down. They are now facing extradition on alleged drug trafficking charges.
Mr. Lewis was arrested at his College Green residence in Hope Pasture, St. Andrew, while the son was picked up in Golden Spring, St. Andrew.
The Lewis' were arrested following raids on eight locations in the Corporate and Manchester by members of Operation Kingfish backed by the Special Anti-Crime Task Force, Flying Squad, Mobile Reserve and the Financial Crimes Unit.
Eleven high-end motor vehicles, passports, financial records, foreign currency, computers and computer related documents were seized in the operation dubbed "Operation Marlin".
Operation Kingfish is reporting that similar operations were conducted Wednesday by their counterparts in the United States and South America for other players in the drug network. Kingfish claims that the Lewis' are major players in the international drug trade.
