U.K.: 82-Year Old Awarded Top Judo Title

WHITLEY BAY, England (Blyth-Wenbeck Today), August 17, 2006: A man who many would expect to be relaxing and enjoying his retirement has just been presented with one of the top judo awards. Instead of relaxing at home, 82-year-old Jack Hearn has been given the title of Hanshi by the Northumbria Budo Association. Already an 8th Dan Judo, Mr Hearn was presented with a plaque and certificate at his club – the Hokojun Club, which meets at Concordia Sports Centre in Cramlington – in the presence of his junior students. He was given the honour after letters of support from Mr Arnold Davies, 8th Dan Judo Hanshi from Kent; Mr Chris Dawson, 6th Dan Judo from Newcastle; and Mr Juan Carlos Mohinas, 5th Dan Judo from Tenerife. Mr Hearn is one of the highest Dan grades in the country and, still being fairly active in martial arts for his age, is an inspiration to many. All rights reserved © 2006 Johnston Press
