NETHERLANDS: Helpline to Beat the Heat
AMSTERDAM (Agence France Presse), July 25, 2006:
In the Netherlands, a Dutch organisation for senior citizens, Het Nationaal Fonds Ouderenhulp, has launched a telephone helpline on Sunday advising the elderly how to beat the heat.
The elderly are particularly vulnerable to the heat though not its sole victims.
In total, the heatwave has cost the lives of about 40 people in Europe. Several countries from Spain, France and Germany to Poland have been hit by temperatures over 30 degrees celsius.
