BANGLADESH: Tk 70 Ml Distributed in Jessore as Old Age Allowance

JESSORE (The Independent), February 9, 2006: A total of Taka 70 million (7 crore) was distributed during the last year, among 31,026 in Jessore district of Bangladesh as old age allowance. A total of 13,15,000 old men are getting the allowances throughout the country which was Tk. 565,29,00,000 in four years of the alliance government, it is learnt. According to Social Welfare Department, Jessore sources, the highest allowance was given to Sadar upazila Jessore among other seven upazilas of the district. In this upazila old age allowances amounting to Tk 1,38,06,700 were distributed among the 6,392 old men. In Monirampur upazila, old age allowance amounting to Tk. 1 crore 14 lakhs 39 thousands 360 among the 5,297 old men. In Keshabpur upazila, old age allowances amounting to Tk. 63,72,000 were distributed among 2,950 old men and women. In Abhoynagar upazila, old age allowances amounting to Tk. 63,26,640 were distributed among 2,929 persons. In Bagerpara upazila, old age allowance amounting to Tk. 65,77,200 was distributed among 3,045 persons. In Chowgachha upazila, old age allowances amounting to Tk. 84,58,00 were distributed among 3,916 persons. In Jhikorgachha upazila, old age allowance amounting to Tk. 80,30,880 were distributed among 3,718 persons and in Sarsha upazila, old age allowance amounting to Tk. 84,58,560 were distributed among 3,916 persons during the period. The source added that, a total of Tk 100 was given to each old man before this ruling government but now the present government increased it to Tk. 180. The present government distributed Tk. 13,15,000 among the old people which was Tk 4 lakh during the Awami League government. The alliance government distributed Tk. 565 crore 29 lakhs among 32,30,558 old people , is learnt.
