INDIA: Bihar Deputy CM Calls for Regular Pensions Payment

PATNA (The Times of India), January 18, 2006: Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi expressed concern over non-implementation and tardy implementation of labour laws and asked officials to ensure timely, regular payment of old-age pension poor senior citizens. He was in a meeting with labour department officials here. From the next financial year, and beginning July this year, a Social Security Week will be observed every three months. During this week, senior citizens would be given three months of old-age pension. He said the state government is working on the idea of directly sending the old-age pension to the beneficiaries to save them from harassment.
