SINGAPORE: Less Discrimination Against Mature Workers

SINGAPORE (ChannelNews Asia), December 15, 2005: The National Trades Union Congress has urged employers not to discriminate against mature workers but provide them with equal employment opportunities. At the same time, it is advising older workers to be willing to adopt a positive approach to accepting new job requirements and salaries as necessary. It also notes that mature and less educated workers continue to form a majority of those laid off and those who are facing long-term unemployment. NTUC Assistant Secretary-General Seng Han Thong says the labour movement will continue to work closely with employers and the government on job redesign efforts and skills upgrading to help this group of workers find gainful employment.
