INDIA: Senior Citizens' Home Celebrates New Year

CHANDIGARH (The Indian Express), December 31, 2005: Keeping the annual tradition alive, members of Chandigarh Senior Citizens’ Association visited the Senior Citizens’ Home, Sector 43, to celebrate New Year’s eve with the residents of the old age home. The entrance to the hall was adorned with a Pushp Rangoli that was put up by the students of Shishu Niketan School who had also decorated the hall with balloons and buntings. The students presented a greeting card and a bouquet to Association chairman Maj Gen J.S. Bhullar and sought the blessings of all senior citizens. This was followed by two houses of Tambola and a cultural programme. Those who participated in the latter included Daljit Singh, Shakuntala, Sohan Sethi, Iqbal Dhillon, G.P. Agrawal, Fateh Chauhan, O.P. Grover, A.S. Ahuja, Bahadur Singh and Arjan Singh. Brig Keshav Chandra led the senior citizens in singing a patriotic, community song. President P.H. Vaishnav addressed the audience and exhorted them to continue to work for the welfare of society. In particular, he sought volunteers for the pending Project Bheeshma Pitamaha designed to help students residing in slums and colonies. The function concluded with the visitors sharing their home-cooked food with the residents.
