IRAN: Elderly Iranian Kills Wife Who Wore Too Much Makeup

TEHRAN, Iran (Middle East Times), November 7, 2005: An 80-year-old Iranian killed his wife because he could not tolerate her wearing makeup outside the house, the government Iran newspaper reported. The man, identified only by his first name, Eyvaz, beat his 30-years-younger wife to death with a club, the report said. The two had often bickered because she wanted to apply cosmetics and go out alone, it said. "We could not understand each other's demands because of our big age difference. Lately, she was putting on makeup and going out on her own, ignoring my objections," the man was quoted as saying to police. Laws in the Islamic republic of Iran oblige women to cover their hair and bodies. But some Iranian women take liberties with the strict dress code promoted by the government and tend to apply heavy makeup.
