UAE: Welfare of Ederly is Close to Khalifa's Heart
ABU DHABI (Khaleej Times), August 8, 2005:
Providing services to the elderly people needs close cooperation among health institutions, ministries, public utilities and other institutions, to lend them psychological harmony and social adaptation.
A study titled 'Care of Elderly People in the UAE' published by the Information Affairs Office of Shaikh Sultan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, touches upon the vision of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to cater to all segments of society with focus on senior citizens.
"The happiness of citizens and their well-being takes up a large part of the President's endeavours, as citizens are the priority in the goal for social and economic development formulated by the policies of the state. Humanitarian action that befits all social strata in society stems from the belief that man was and still is the prime target of the development process," the study said.
In the words of Shaikh Khalifa: "The state's eagerness to uplift the citizens and provide them with the means to obtain a prosperous life, social services should keep pace with modern education, and offer citizens the highest levels of healthcare and develop the society, basing its roots on Islamic values and genuine Arabic traditions to achieve stability, creating in the process, the conditions to promote the cause of women and children."
