FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA (South Florida Sun Sentinel), March 14, 2005:
Internet dating isn’t just for the younger generations anymore.
Online dating sites are reporting a boom in business from computer-savvy visitors 55 years and older. In fact, an Internet analyst says seniors are the fastest-growing group of online users.
One retired Ohio teacher was getting tired of eating meals by himself, and having no one to talk to all day. His pastor pointed him to resources online, and soon he was corresponding with a Florida woman. After hundreds of emails and hours on the phone, the two began meeting for holidays. They were married in June.
But the medium is still a barrier to some seniors, who didn’t grow up with the technology. One Florida man admits being uncomfortable with the faceless aspect of online dating. He calls it a good start, but cautions others not to believe what they hear and only “half” of what they see.
