AUSTRALIA: For Old Lang Syne, Senior Women Party On
WODONGA, Victoria (The Border Mail), January 1, 2005:
PROVING age is no barrier to partying, Corowas “recycled teenagers” saw in 2005 listening to bands and dancing.
The group of 30 women aged from 48 to 80 go out every New Years Eve and always amaze the younger crowds with their sense of fun.
Each year the group tries a different venue and another style of celebration.
In 2003, some went camping and the year before they hit Howlongs night spots.
Last night the Corowa RSL was the venue of choice and the group preferred the
rocking sound of band Stand and Deliver opposed to the “tame” bar.
“We call ourselves the recycled teenagers,” Mrs Pam Marshall said.
“Its a bit of fun for us. New Years Eve is definitely not just for the young."
“We always stay out past midnight, see in the New Year and this time we could even see the dawn.”
Fellow recycled teenager Mrs Joan Szanyi said the group left their husbands at home or to their own celebrations.
She said they enjoyed the band, didnt mind the noise and entertained the crowd by line dancing.
“Im sure no one thought wed be up there line dancing or would even be able to do the dance,” she said.
So where will the recycled teenagers be in 2005?
“There are no barriers,” Mrs Marshall said.
