PAKISTAN: Elderly to Get National Identity Cards at Doorstep

GUJRANWALA (The Dawn), April 19, 2003: The Nadra will deliver computerized national identity cards to elderly persons at their doorsteps while rest of the cards will be distributed through swift centres. Nadra Director General Brig Tariq Moeen Nawaz announced this at the local chamber of commerce and industry here on Saturday. He said that expatriates would also be provided computerized cards. He pointed out that the US and Japan had sought our cooperation in the preparation of computerized cards as these countries liked our system. He divulged that Pakistan would also extend its cooperation to the central Asian states and Sri Lanka in this regard. As of now the Nadra, he claimed, had distributed 27.8 million computerized cards. Earlier, the chamber president and other office bearers demanded that their cards should be prepared and distributed on priority basis.
